BYNC President Craig Chico Receives NHS Neighborhood Leadership Award

The Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago held their annual meeting and 3rd Annual Neighborhood Leadership Awards on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Gathered at the Garfield Park Conservatory, seven leaders of seven neighborhoods around the city were honored with the Neighborhood Leadership Award, an award given to those who are dedicated, committed and have inspired the communities they call home.

Among the recipients this year was Craig Chico, president of the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council (BYNC).

“It’s quite an honor and I really appreciative that Back of the Yards community, people from the neighborhood nominated me,” said Chico. “It meant alot and I didn’t realize how much it would mean until I was up there listening to what other people have done and seeing that my collegues were in the audience really meant alot.”

The other six awardees included Senator Jacqueline Collins of Auburn Gresham, Jeff Bartow of Chicago Lawn/Gage Park, Carl Missele of NHS of the Fox Valley, Clyde Ross of North Lawndale, Silas Woods of Roseland, and Doris Brown of West Humboldt Park.

La organización Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago realizó su reunión anual y su 3er ceremonia de Premiación de Liderazgo Comunitario el martes, 16 de octubre. Reunidos en el Conservatorio del Parque Garfield, siete líderes de siete vecindarios de la ciudad fueron honrados con el Premio de Liderazgo Comunitario, un reconocimiento dado a aquellos que están dedicados, comprometidos y han inspirado a las comunidades que llaman su hogar.

Entre los premiados de este año estuvo Craig Chico, presidente del Concilio de Back of the Yards (BYNC).

“Es un honor y de verdad aprecio que la comunidad de Back of the Yards, la gente del vecindario me haya nominado”, dijo Chico. “No me había dado cuenta de lo mucho que significaba hasta que estuve ahí escuchando lo que otras personas han hecho y ver que mis colegas estuvieron en la audiencia”.
