En Route to Miss Fiestas Patrias 2012

Back of the Yards is getting ready to showcase the neighborhood talent by training eight young ladies from the community for the annual Fiestas Patrias Pageant. These young ladies are not just competing for a crown, they are going after scholarships for their education and an opportunity to represent the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council.

Back of the Yards se prepara para exhibir el talento del vecindario entrenando a ocho jóvenes de la comunidad para el concurso anual Miss Fiestas Patrias. Estas jóvenes no sólo compiten por la corona, también van por las becas para su educación y una oportunidad para representar al Concilio de Back of the Yards.

TANIA REYES

Tania is 17-years-old and currently attends Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Her strength is that she is confident, and feels she is able to overcome any obstacle in life. Her future goals are to graduate high school and from a great university. This will help her become a great person in life that will impact and help her community.

Tania tiene 17 años y actualmente asiste a la Secundaria Cristo Rey. Su punto fuerte es que es una persona segura, y siente que puede superar cualquier obstáculo de la vida. Sus metas futuras son graduarse de la secundaria y de una buena universidad; esto le ayudará a convertirse en una gran persona en la vida que impactará y ayudará a su comunidad.

VILMA CARDONA

Vilma is 21 -years-old and is currently a student at National Louis University. Her strength is that she is a team leader and can easily adapt to stressful situations in order to succeed. Her future goals are to graduate from college and continue to volunteer and work on helping communities.

Vilma tiene 21 años y actualmente es estudiante en la Universidad National Louis. Su punto fuerte es que ella es líder de equipo y fácilmente se puede adaptar a situaciones estresantes para tener éxito. Sus metas futuras son graduarse de la universidad y continuar siendo voluntaria y trabajar en ayudar a las comunidades.

SAMANTHA HALL 

Samantha is 18-years-old and is currently a student at Kelly High School. Her main strength is that she is very creative. Her future goals are to graduate from high school and study cosmetology. She would like to one day open her own hair/ nail salon. Samantha is a descendant of Michoacán.

Samantha tiene 18 años de edad y actualmente estudia en la Secundaria Kelly. Su punto fuerte principal es que es bastante creativa. Sus metas futuras son graduarse de la secundaria y estudiar cosmetología. Le gustaría algún día abrir su propio salón de belleza. Samantha es originaria de Michoacán.

ABIGAIL QUINTANA 

Abigail is 22 years old and her strengths are to dance to any kind of music and rhythm, and to walk on runways with style. Her future goals are to be a teacher as well as a professional model. During her spare time, she volunteers at schools to help children with their homework and projects. Abigail is descendant of Durango and Jalisco.

Abigail tiene 22 años de edad y sus puntos fuertes son el bailar cualquier tipo de música y ritmo y caminar en las pasarelas con estilo. Sus metas futuras son ser maestra además de ser una modelo profesional. Durante su tiempo libre, es voluntaria en varias escuelas para ayudar a los niños con sus tareas y proyectos. Abigail es originaria de Durango y Jalisco.

ROCIO DEL REAL 

Rocio is 22- years-old and her strengths are that she is a people person and finds it very easy to make friends, regardless of the situation. Rocio wants to give back to the Back of the Yards community through education; therefore, her future goal is to become a teacher and eventually become a principal of a school. She is a descendant of Jalisco.

Rocío tiene 22 años de edad y sus puntos fuertes son que ella es una persona que le gusta tratar a la gente y hace amigos con facilidad sin importar la situación. Rocío quiere devolverle a la comunidad de Back of the Yards mediante la educación; por lo tanto, su meta futura es convertirse en maestra y después ser directora de una escuela. Ella es originaria de Jalisco.

RUBY ALVAREZ 

Ruby is currently 18 years old and will be attending Dominican University in the fall of 2012. Motivation, commitment, creativity, and having a positive attitude are Ruby’s main strengths. Her main goal is to graduate from college and become a neurological surgeon. Ruby is a descendent of Guanajuato, Mexico.

Ruby actualmente tiene 18 años de edad y asistira a la Universidad Dominican en otoño del 2012. La motivación, el compromiso, la creatividad y el tener una actitud positiva son los puntos fuertes principales de Ruby. Su meta principal es graduarse de la universidad y convertirse en cirujana neurológica. Ruby es originaria de Guanajuato, México.

MARIANNA YAZMIN ABARCA 

Mariana is 16 years old and currently attends Kelly High School. Her strengths are confidence and a grear sense of leadership. Her future goal is to open her own businesses. Her idea is to open a bakery and create artwork on cakes. Mariana is a descendant of Mexico City.

Mariana tiene 16 años de de edad y actualmente asiste a la Secundaria Kelly. Sus puntos fuertes son su seguridad y un gran sentido de liderazgo. Su meta futura es abrir su propio negocio. Su idea es abrir una pastelería y crear sus obras de arte en pasteles. Mariana es originaria de la Ciudad de México.
