New Businesses in Back of the Yards

Since the beginning of the year, four new businesses have opened on the 47^th Street business corridor.

Sabores Restaurant, 1922 W 47^th, 773-475-6111. Sabores opened for business in early January 2012. The business owner, Abel Vences, spent significant time and money rehabilitating his building after it was gutted by fire in June 2011. When the doors reopened, customers were treated to traditional Mexican delicacies – from burritos and tacos to full course dinners and desserts. Stop by for lunch or dinner or maybe hold your next event at Sabores.

47^th Mini Mart, 1834 W 47^th. The 47^th Street convenience store opened this year in March. The store features a full selection of groceries and other household products. You can shop there using your LINK card and also can get cash at their ATM.

Insurance Navy, 1801 W 47^th Street, 773-523-0300. Insurance Navy opened its newest location in the Back of the Yards in June 2012. Insurance Navy focuses on providing Chicago and Northwest Indiana residents with relatively low prices for their auto and home insurance. The Insurance Navy Agency is licensed to transact all types of insurance products and services, including property, casualty, health and life. Their main emphasis is trucking insurance, business insurance, and personal auto insurance as well as SR22. The agency is also licensed in the State of Indiana and State of Michigan.

Insurance Navy Agency has agents who have been servicing thousands of clients since 1989. They are familiar with, and sensitive to the various cultures, ethnicities, and languages of  population. Supermercado Los Paisanos, 1714 W 47^th St.  Supermercado Los Paisanos opened for business in May 2012. This is the first business venture for the owners who are excited to serve the Back of the Yards community. They feel their store has great prices and excellent selection along with convenience. Its owner, also thinks that his staff provides the best customer service. Stop by and find some of the best prices on staples and essentials in the community. LINK cards are accepted.

Wal-Mart Announces New Store for Back of the Yards

Wal-Mart Corporation has ended months of speculation with its announcement that it will be opening a new store in the Back of the Yards. Scheduled for a January 2013 opening, the new Wal-Mart store will be located on the former site of the  Super Mas grocery store which closed at the end of 2011. The store will be approximately 31,000 square feet and will be one of Wal-Mart’s Neighborhood Stores. The store will have a self-serve deli that includes fruits and vegetables, as well as meats, cheeses and prepared foods. The store will carry a full line of groceries, including frozen foods, meat and dairy products.

The store will have a fully staffed pharmacy  and offer a full selection of health products and a beauty area. Additional areas include stationery, paper goods, pet products, hardware items and a Celebration Station.

Wal-Mart is also opening a new store in Little Village.

Wal-Mart has begun to implement a “local first” supply system that helps local businesses get their products into Wal-Mart’s distribution system and on store shelves.
