Sabores Restaurant Rises from the Ashes

The Back of the Yards community welcomed a new restaurant – Sabores at 1922 .W 47th St. on Jan. 5. The family friendly restaurant features traditional Mexican specialties like tamales, tortas, enchiladas, and carne asada. Sabores also offers Mexican and American breakfast all day and features family dinner specials.

Sabores represents the latest success story for the Back of the Yards community. The previous business at this address, a sports bar, burned down in July 2011. The building’s owner, Abel Bautista, contemplated what to do next. In today’s uncertain economy, planning a new venture can be risky, but Bautista put his faith in the Back of the Yards community. He began reconstruction of the building in mid 2011 and with a lot of effort and hard work, he opened Sabores for business in late December.

“I am very proud to be a member of the community and provide a place for families to come and enjoy good food in a pleasant atmosphere,” said Bautista at the grand opening. “I hope we’re able to serve the community for many years to come.”

“This new restaurant is a symbol of the growth going on in the community,” said Roger Sosa, Business Recruitment Manager for Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council. “We are seeing a lot of activity on the street in terms of new businesses. We are also getting more requests for assistance in opening new businesses and expanding existing businesses. I’m very excited for 2012 as I think there will be significant growth in the business community.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony led by local priest Father Rojas and Sosa highlighted the grand opening. Afterwards, diners were treated to complimentary cinnamon spiced hot chocolate and sweet tamales. Parents and their children enjoyed the varied menu of traditional Mexican delights.

Restaurante Sabores Se Levanta de las Cenizas

La comunidad de Back of the Yards le dio la bienvenida a un nuevo restaurante—Sabores ubicado en el 1922 Oeste de la Calle 47 el pasado 5 de enero. El restaurante familiar cuenta con tradicionales especialidades mexicanas como tamales, tortas, enchiladas y carne asada. Sabores también ofrece desayunos mexicanos y americanos durante todo el día y también cuenta con especiales de cena.

Sabores representa la más reciente historia de éxito en la comunidad de Back of the Yards. El previo negocio en este domicilio, una barra deportiva, se incendió en julio de 2011. El propietario del edificio, Abel Bautista, contempló que hacer después. En la economía incierta de hoy, planear un nuevo negocio puede ser arriesgado, pero Bautista puso su fe en la comunidad de Back of the Yards. Comenzó la reconstrucción del edificio a mediados de 2011 y con mucho esfuerzo y arduo trabajo, abrió Sabores al público a finales de diciembre.

“Estoy muy orgulloso de ser miembro de la comunidad y proporcionar un lugar para que las familias vengan y disfruten de buena comida en un ambiente placentero”, dijo Bautista en la inauguración. “Espero que podamos servir a la comunidad por muchos años”.

“Este nuevo restaurante es un símbolo del crecimiento que acontece en la comunidad”, dijo Roger Sosa, Gerente de Reclutamiento de Empresas para el Concilio de Back of the Yards. “Estamos viendo mucha actividad en la calle en lo referente a nuevos negocios. También estamos recibiendo más peticiones de asistencia para abrir nuevos negocios y expandir los ya existentes. Estoy emocionado por el 2012 ya que pienso que habrá un importante crecimiento en la comunidad empresarial”.

Una ceremonia de corte de listón encabezada por el Padre Rojas y Sosa fue lo destacado de la gran apertura. Después los asistentes se deleitaron con chocolate caliente con canela y tamales dulces. Los padres de familia y sus hijos disfrutaron el variado menú de tradicionales delicias mexicanas.
